Only proven children are William, Ashwell, Elizabeth & Mary per Historical Southern Families, Volume VI. However, other primary records (wills for both William and Sarah Stone) do not name these same children; thus, two different William Stones may have lived in Virginia at the same time.

The other evidence that we have is summarized below, all of which relies upon both his will (he left Sarah a widow), and his wife's will.

Among their known children, relying upon primary documentation/abstractions of their wills:

First, from William Stone's 31 Jan 1707 will:

        1. Phillip
        2. Joshua
        3. Elizabeth (Stone) Dawson, who married William Dawson
        4. Mary [some documentation calls her Mary Frances Stone]
        5. Sarah (Stone) Glasscock
        6. William Stone

Note, however, regarding son William Stone, that Sarah (Howard) Stone wrote her Richmond County, Virginia will 2 Jul 1711 and she died in 1717 (will proved 1 May 1717). Her will consistently refers to her as Sarah Stone NOT Mary. Her son William Stone was old enough to be executor of his mother's will, and he presented inventory 5 Jun 1717.

Two or three citations (going to attempt to reproduce these to examine them firsthand), but they're well summarized from here: WikiTree contributors, "William Stone (1645-1707)," WikiTree: The Free Family Tree, (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stone-12167 : accessed 19 April 2023).

"WILLIAM STONE - His will, dated 31 Jan. 1707, lists his wife Sarah and sons Phillip and Joshua. Also son-in-law Robert Schofield, and daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, plus his grandson John Glasscock - who was the oldest son of his daughter Sarah, who was not mentioned." (Wm & Mary Quarterly, Vol. 17, series 1, p. 84.) l.Glassco, The Glas(s)cocks of Eng. & AM. p. 160.

He was married to Sarah HOWARD. 775. Sarah HOWARD was born in 1645. She signed a will on 2 Jul 1711 in Richmond Co., VA. She died in 1717. Re; Janet Ricke, 20 Aug. 1995. Wills of Richmond Co., VA, 1699-1800, p. 36, "p.323 - Sarah STONE, wid. and relict of William STONE, of Rich. Co., will; 2 Jul 1711, 1 May 1717 dau, Elizabeth DAWSON (now wife of William Dawson) a tract of land near the lands of near the lands of George GLASCOCK and James TUNE (containing) 40 ac. which sd. land was bought of my son Philip Stone by the sd. William DAWSON; ex: son William STONE; wit: Joseph STONE, Thomas Draper, Leonard HART. p. 332 - Sarah STONE, inv. pres. by William STONE, ex; 5 June 1717." Wills Richmond Co. VA, 1699-1800. p. 36. Children were: 387 i. Sarah STONE. ii. Elizabeth STONE. m. William Dawson. See mother's will, on mother's general note. iii. Philip STONE. Named in mother's will. iv. William STONE. Was ex. of mother's will, presented inventory on 5 Jun 1717. See mother's will in Richmond Co., VA,"

THUS, in conclusion, the son Will (or any other children that name Mary as the wife in the sources), born in 1682 may be to a different Stone family.
