        In the D. A. R. Library in Washington, D. C., there is a photastatic copy of a Courtney Norman's services in the Revolutionary War. His date of birth was given as 1730. Courtney Norman, Jr. moved to Rockingham County, North Carolina between 1783 and 1790, and died there after witnessing a will in 1796 but before 1800.

        Another Courtney Norman, probably his son, remained in Culpeper County and married Alice Jett in 1793. (Source: Culpeper Co. Marriages). He owned land in Culpeper after 1800.

        Memorandum of the last will and testament of Benjamin Norman decd late of Caswell County North Carolina
        To my son JOHN NORMAN I give one dollar.

        To my son WESTLEY NORMAN I give five acres of land including the house he now lives in and the spring he makes use of it being part of the land purchased of Nathaniel Murphy also my Waggon and hind gear and a horse named buck.

        To my grandson NATHAN NORMAN I give my gun and a horse or sixty dollars.

        To my daughter AMELIA NORMAN I give a Negroe boy named Charles.

        To my four sons to wit BENJAMIN, WILLIAM, ISAAC, & WESTLEY I give the land I bought of the heirs of Edward Mills and John Dinnis to be equally divided among them.

        To my four daughters to wit ROSEY, JUDAH, ANNE, & AMELIA I give the balance of my land I purchased of Nathaniel Murphy after the five acres is taken off as bequeathed to my son Westley also the household and kitchen furniture and a sufficient allowance of provision for one year also two horses by the names of Banter and Diamond.

        To my daughter ANNE I give a horse named Ball.

        All the rest of my property of very description after all my just debts are paid I leave to be equally divided among all my children except my son John Norman who is to have no more than what has before been given him.

        I will that I be decently buried at the expense of my estate.

        I appoint my sons Benjamin, Isaac, and Westly to execute this my last will and testament.

        Benjamin M. Norman being duly sworn, deposeth and saith, that William Norman late of the County of Madison, and State aforesaid, departed this life on or about the 24th day of February A.D. 1846; and that he died intestate, to the best of his knowledge and belief.

        William Norman died intestate, and his sons Benjamin and Robert were assigned as administrators of the estate, after their mother, Mildred, relinquished her rights. This record contains 36 pages showing the inventory of assets and the payments made.
