Piers, Lord of Birmingham, Warwickshire, is given as a possible father for Robert de Bermingham, Lord of Athenry.

Peter was Steward to Gervase Paganell, Baron of Dudley, held of that nobleman in 12 of Henry II, 1165, no less than nine knights' fees de veteri feoffment. This Peter had a Castle at Bermingham, which stood scarcely a bow-shot from the church to the westward and by a charter from the crown held a weekly market Thursday there. By this charter he had the liberties of Thol, Theam, Sock, Sack and Infangethef to him and his heirs forever. (Footnote. These liberties were the power of punishing offenders within his own bounds; a power of obliging all that live in his jurisdiction to plead in his courts; a cognizance of all courts; a power to punish natives for theft.)
