        MAURICE FITZGERALD, second Baron of Offaly, who succeeded his father by the mandatory letter of King Henry III, dated 26 Nov., 1216, and was put in possession of his father's lands; 1229 constituted Lord Justice of Ireland and, going to assist the King with great power beyond sea, was on his return made Lord Justice 2 Sep., 1232; in 1216 he introduced into Ireland the order of the Franciscans; in 1229 that of the Dominicans; two years after built the Franciscan Abbey of Youghal; a distinguished soldier; married Juliana, daughter of John de Cogan, Lord Justice of Ireland 124
