In 1840 census his wife was under 30 an he had a son under five and a daughter under five. He apparently was married to Miranda Rebecca Thomas in 1834/ and had three children. In 1850 census his wife Rebecca was born in 1827 and she would not have been old enough to be the mother of his two children. Rebecca was married to him in 1846 and had four children.

In other words, Nicholas appared to have two different wives with the name Rebecca Thomas
