Narrative
It is told that Martin Dye, who was an expert swimmer, on July 12, 1822 while attempting to cross Doctors Fork during high waters, got his horse entangled in brush or something similar and was thrown over the horse's head. He was later found drifting in the creek with his beautiful black horse running up and down the creek side. A member of the family, a lady quite ill, requested that his body be laid beside her bed in the hou that she might see him for one last time.
