Presley Self, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Jenkins Self did not leave an estate probate record in Loudoun County, Virginia. The following may explain why: Charles Preston Poland, Jr., From Frontier to Suburbia, Marceline, Missouri, Walsworth Publishing Co. 1976. p.15 "The boundaries of the new county of Loudoun were essentially those of Cameron Parish: the Potomac River on the north, Prince William County, and later known as Fauquier County, on the south, the Blue Ridge Mts. on the west, and Difficult Run, then called Difficult Waters, on the east. However, the size of Loudoun was reduced by the relocation of the Fairfax-Loudoun boundary from Difficult Run to Sugarland Run in 1798. This reduction culminated from nearly three decades of demand by large planters south of Goose Creek for the creation of a new county in southern Loudoun. These "cavaliers" resented that they could not dominate the local county government of Loudoun and had to compete for political power with people from western Loudoun, whom they deemed their inferiors. Co-inciding with this protest was the creation of Shelburne parish in 1770 in what was formerly the western region of Cameron Parish. The formation of Shelburn parish served as a stimulant for motivating eastern Loudoun residents into demanding the creation of a new county out of the remaining portion of Cameron parish. This proposal would have left the area of Shelburne parish as Loudoun County. Settlers in western Loudoun, opposing such a division of the county, created an impasse until a compromise was worked out in 1798. At that time the land between Difficult Run and Sugarland Run was given back to Fairfax County. 1771-1783 on the Tithe list of Richmond and Lunenberg County Lists. Executor to John Jenkins will dated 23 Jul 1796 and proven 12 Sept 1796. His mother, Elizabeth Jenkins Self, is John's sister and Presley is his nephew.
