Ranma 1/2: Anything Goes Martial Arts

Ranma 1/2 II: Anything Goes Martial arts was meant to be the sequel to Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle in the U.S. but the company that owned the rights went out of business before releasing it. It was released in Japan as Ranma 1/2: Super-Skill Wild Dance Chapter and since it is a fighting game it really isn’t difficult to play a non localized version.

Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle was released in 1993. It’s a decent if fairly average 2D fighting game but its real appeal was probably the Ranma 1/2 license. There weren’t a huge number of anime games at the time (at least in North America) and this was one of the few on the Super Nintendo. I’m not sure how good the sequel was but most North American players would never find out.

It’s interesting that they were far enough along towards releasing the game that ads were produced and published. I would think that the game would have been available about the same time that the ads hit the street. I suppose it’s possible they had finished localizing it but just never produced the cartridges.
