Notes - He was at Bordeaux in August 1254, but, having obtained letters of safe-conduct from Louis IX, started home through Poitou early in September, in company with John dd Plessis and William Mauduit. The party was treacherously seized by the citizens of Pons in Poitou; Segrave died in captivity, and John de Plessis was not released till the following year.
GILBERT de Segrave (-Pons, Poitou before 8 Oct 1254). Henry III King of England ordered "Stephano de Sedgrave" to surrender "Novum Castrum super Linam quod G. filius vester tenet" by letter dated 14 Jun 1234[798]. The Annals of Dunstable record that “Gilbertus de Segrave” died in 1254 in the prison of “Reginaldi de Puns in partibus transmarinis”[799]. m (before 20 Sep 1231) as her first husband, AMABIL, daughter of ROBERT de Chaucombe & his wife --- (-bur Chaucombe Priory).

Maude de Lacy married thrice. As Richard de Clare died 1262(at the age of 40 and when she was 39) and Nicholas de Seagrave died before 1295 (when she was 72)and Geoffrey de Greneville in 1314 (at the age of 86, 25 years after his wife's death), we can assume that she married Richard first, and after his death she married Nicholas and afrer his death she finally married Geoffrey. Maude had his first daughter from Richard in 1240 (she was 17 y.o.) her last son from Richard in 1252 (when she was 29 Y.O.). But now how it came that her sons from her 2nd and 3dh husband where born before Richard's death? in 1244 she had Piers from Geoffrey, in 1256 she had John fron Nicholas and in 1270 (at the age of 47!) she had Eleanor. What's wrong?
