Notes - Although other researchers have assigned this Nancy to Peter and Nancy (Skaggs) Despain's family, it is possible that Nancy is the daughter of James & Margaret (Matthews) Despain. This is not proven. There are other possibilities for her parents, but most of them have been eliminated. This individual has been extremely hard to place in the genealogy. There is a possibility that she is Solomon & Levicey (Grayham) Despain's daughter, but future reseachers may change these assumptions.

1870 Census: Taylor Co, KY page 283 - Nancy Thompson
1880 Census: Oak Hill, Taylor Co, KY roll 442, page 92D. She is listing as age 60, a widow living alone.
It is interesting to note that in the 1880 census she stated her father was born in AL and her mother in KY. Although I doubt that her father was born in AL, it strongly suggests an AL connection. Both James & Solomon were associated with AL. There are arguments for and against each of these potential fathers. Let's hope that future researchers find the truth.
