  It is not known if Scotty & Sally married before or after the move to southern Montgomery Co, VA near the North Caroline boarder. There are several male Petersons listed in Daniel Trigg's Company of Montgomery County, 31 Mar 1781. They may be her family. In the Circuit Court Case # 3977 papers, it is stated that Susan died a few days after James. Therefore she probably died just before 20 Jan 1835. Her surname is from W. W. Whitaker's files. However there does not seem to be any written proof of her name. It supposedly comes from one of her grandson being named, John Peterson DeSpain. Mr. Whitaker also mentions another grandson named James Peterson Despain.
