Religion: led uprising against Henry VIII for dissolution of Chuches and abbeys.
Note: The manor was held by the Bigod family from the 1200's to 1537 when Sir Francis Bigod was executed for high treason for taking part in the Pilgrimage of Grace. This was when Northern men, ledby Robert Aske, marched to London to demand the restoration of the monasteries and a return to Roman Catholicism. 3
