This family is of great antiquity - see genealogy back to Old King Coel;
They came in with William the Conqueror, the name being in the Roll of Battle Abbey and Chronicles of Normandy (see Selly's Pedigree of Nobil., MS., P. 37). The first from whom, in lineal succession, the late Earl of Castlehaven and Lord Audley derived his descent is
ORMUS TOUCHET,b. 1070 Buglawton, Cheshire who had issue Matthew, and probably Hugh and Jacelyn
MATHEW TOUCHET, b. 1100 Buglawton, Cheshire, England, had son.
SIMON TOUCHET, b. 1132 Buglawton, Cheshire, m Petronilla, b. 1140 Buglawton, Cheshire and a son Robert ; m. 2nd Alice de Coleville

HUGH de TOUCHET gave to the Abbey of Leicester his lands in Esswell which Henry II. confirmed.
WILLIAM TUCHET, having summons to parliament among the barons, from 1295 to 1307, was in that expedition made into Gascoigne, and the year following in that into Scotland. In 29th of Edward I. he was one of the Barons who subscribed (being wrote William Touchet Lord of Leevenhales) a letter to Pope Boniface in answer to his claiming the sovereignty of Scotland, wherein they asserted that the king ought not to send any proctors, &c., to His Holiness, in any matter touching his temporalities, &c. They tell the Pope they will maintain with all power, and by God's help, the liberties, customs, &c., of their forefathers. To him succeeded another
WILLIAM TOUCHET , who in the 1311 received command to serve in Scotland, as likewise in 8th of same reign, also in 1319 of Edward II. was again in the wars of Scotland; but three years after, on the insurrection of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, and his defeat at Burrough Brigg, being there taken with him, he suffered death at Pomfret.
•THOMAS, his son(?), was beheaded, being concerned in the insurrection of Thomas, earl of Lancaster, 1321
Line starts again here,

But the year after, embarking with the Earl of Southampton, in order to invade France by Poctore, and coming before Rochelle, June 22nd, to land there, and meeting with the Spanish fleet, there ensued a desperate engagement, wherein this Sir John Touchet was slain, and the Earl taken prisoner, the Spaniards being in greater force, and their ships much more numerous than the English. He was m.first to Margaret de Mortimer and, second to Joan de Audley, b.1331, daughter of James, and sister and co-heir of Nicholas Audley, baron Audley of Heleigh, and had issue.

Biography
Sir John Tuchet of Ashwell, Rutland, Leegomery (in Wellington), Shropshire, etc.[1]
Father: Sir John Tuchet (also Touchet, Tochet), son of Thomas Tuchet, Knt.[1]
Mother: Joan de Audley, second daughter of James de Audley, Knt., by Joan de Mortimer[1]
Born: after 1344 (a minor in 1365)[1]
Wife: Maud _____, widow of Sir Richard de Willoughby (died 2 June 1369)[1]
married before 1371[1]
Son: John Tuchet, born 23 April 1371[1]
Died: 23 June 1372, "slain in the naval Battle off La Rochelle in the Bay of Biscay". Sir John Tuchet had left England in June 1372 with "John de Hastings, Earl of Pembroke with reinforcements for Acquitaine."[1][2]
Notes
His widow married (3rd) before September 1378 John Daubridgecourt, K.G.[1]
His son and heir, Sir John Tuchet, married Elizabeth Stafford, daughter of Humphrey Stafford, Knt. He was also "co-heir in 1391 to his great-uncle, Nicholas Audley, Knt., 3rd Lord Audley."[1]
Disputed Wives
Maud ____: According to Richardson's Royal Ancestry, John Tuchet married Maud _____ before 1371 (presumably based on their son, John, being born in April 1371). He left England in June 1372 and was slain in battle that same month. His widow married John Daubridgecourt in 1378.[1]
Margery de Grey: According to Lewis, John married before 1371 "Margery de Grey, daughter of Sir Reginald de Grey, 4th Baron Grey and Maud Botetourt" and was the mother of his son John (b 1371). Lewis cites Richardson's Plantagenet Ancestry for Margery's birth and parents in the entry for her mother Maud (Lewis, Maud Botetourt), but on her entry (Lewis, Margery de Grey) cites also Richardson's Royal Ancestry and notes "Relationship to parents shown is suggested, not proved." Lewis does not appear to cite a source for her marriage to John.
"I think both wives are wrong" (note that had been at the top of John's profile) refers to the profiles for
Maud Grey, daughter of Reynold Grey and his wife, Eleanor le Strange (see excerpt from a 2002 Rootsweb discussion in GEN-MEDIEVAL on her profile)[3]
Margaret Mortimer (see information on her profile)
It is probable that he had only one wife, as (according to Richardson) he was a minor in 1365, a father in 1371, and dead in 1372. It seems that perhaps in Plantagenet Ancestry, Richardson gave his wife's maiden name as Grey. He does not give John's wife, Maud, mother of his son John, a maiden name in Royal Ancestry, although Lewis cites "Douglas Richardson, Royal Ancestry, Vol. V, p. 193-194" for the statement about the relationship of Margery "to the parents shown" (i.e., Grey). Looking at the fine print following John and Maud (____) Tuchet's entry in Richardson, the following seems relevant:
Top. & Gen. 1 (1846) 197-207: ("The wife of Sir John [Dabridgecourt] is stated in some of the pedigrees to be Maud, dau. of Sir Rich. Bromhall, and relict of Rob. Touchet of Bughawton and Nether Whitley, co. Cest.; in others Matilda, dau. of Will. Willoughby; ob. May 1, 1445").
Stevenson Rpt. on MSS of Lord Middleton (Hist. MSS Comm. 69) (1911): 504-505 ("Richard Willughby ... marred Matilda, the daughter of Reginald, and sister of Sir John de Grey. He died the 29th of Edw. 3d, leaving no issue behind him").
See also Rootsweb's GEN-MEDIEVAL-L, this post by Douglas Richardson in 2006. (Note, however, that in Richardson's 2013 Royal Ancestry, Sir John Tuchet's wife is still given as Maud ____.)
Of the existing profiles in WikiTree, probably Maud Grey, daughter of Reynold Grey and his wife, Eleanor le Strange, is the best choice at this time to be his wife and mother of their son John. ~ Noland-165 14:14, 4 September 2016 (EDT)

Magna Carta Project
John Tuchet appears in Magna Carta Ancestry in a Richardson-documented trail from Gateway Ancestor John Bevan to Magna Carta Surety Baron Richard de Clare (vol. I, pages 190-192 BEVAN). This trail needs further development by the Magna Carta Project and is outlined in the Magna Carta Trails section of the Gateway's profile.
Needs Source Check: It appears the biography is largely from Lewis's database, which draws heavily on Richardson's works. The information needs to be verified and footnotes added/edited as appropriate. ~ Noland-165 20:44, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Needs Development: This profile needs development against the project's checklist to bring it up to current project standards. ~ Thiessen-117 23:49, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
