"Lord of Eyton" Occurs frequently in documentation 1302 - 1325... P.274 LDSFilm 504545-504550 Genealoy of Shropshire: This Peter de Eyton was a warrior,& like his neighbor Aleyn de Cherleton of Apley, brother of the celebrated Sir John de Cherleton (who married Hawise Gadarn) appears to have had considerable experiences in his profession. 18.E.II.1325 he was appointed Commr. of array for the purpose of raising hobelers*, &c. in the counties of Salop and Stafford in the place of Alain de Cherleton#, Comn. of Substitution seated at Beaulieu April 28. On the 1st of May following orders were addressed to him concerning the march of certain detachments of the hobelers and archersfrom the Counties aforesaid in consequence of a propogation of the muster having taken place. On 10 July he was instructed to suspend the marching of the said hobelers and archers, and Sept.30, 19.E.II. He was commanded to inspect the said levies so that they may continue fir for service.(Writs of Milt sum V.2) *hobelers: Light horsemen who rode on hobbies (small nimble horses) accouted in light armour to fit them better for any expeditious service,as distinguished from the "men at arms"who were mounted on strong bony horses, which with their riders were armed at all points. #The Comn. Cherleton was to raise & march certain detachments of hobelers and archers to Portsmouth & to superintend their array & it was in consequence of Cherleton "being employed in active duty under the King "that Peter de Eyton was substituted in his place. The forces were intended for the war in Gascony.
