The posible social consiquences of easy organ transplants and organ banks
has been examined in detail in several short stories and novels by Larry Niven

Some titles I can recall are A Gift From Earth, The Patchwork Girl, The Long
Arm of Gil Hamilton (?). In general Niven is very pessemistic about the
behavior of society if people can extend their lives with parts of someone
else.
