Here is a fascinating question for all McCoy followers:

Name the occasions when the prase (or something like it) "Dammit Jim,
I am a doctor, not a _____" was used and what occupation he filled the
blank in with.

One answer would be bricklayer when he was going to treat the Horta.

In HS I had a friend who liked to make audio cassette tapes of ST
episodes, and I think he also had a tape which just contained all the
"I'm a doctor, no a ..." lines. The only one I can think of offhand is
"I'm a doctor, not an escalator", which was used in the episode where
McCoy delivered a baby (my episode name memory is not what it used to
be, and I don't have my Concordance handy).

Subject: McCoy trivia

In 'City on the edge of forever', when McCoy first comes down from his
drug-induced psychotic paranoia, he utters another great McCoy-ism.

After finding it strange that Leonard has never heard of Clark Gable,
Edith Keeler (who runs the mission and plays Kirk's romantic interest)
tells the good doctor that she knows some other people who strike her
as similarly strange (unbeknownst to McCoy she refers to Kirk and Spock).
To this he replies, "I'm a surgeon, not a psychiatrist.".

"We're only up to 76% power!" David SIlver

The name of the episode in which McCoy says "I'm a doctor,
not a bricklayer," was "Friday's Child". The context
was something like when they were trying to get the
pregnant woman up a steep incline, Spock attempted to
help McCoy by pulling the woman up, but the woman
resisted, saying "No! I will allow only his [McCoy's] touch,"
to which Bones replied with the above line.

Not so. McCoy's line in "Friday's Child" in the situation you give is
"I'm a doctor, not an escalator". It is in "The Devil in the Dark" that
McCoy, after being asked by Kirk to administer aid to the rock-like Horta,
exclaims "I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer". Besides, it just doesn't sound
right as you recount it.

I believe that the episode in which Dr. McCoy says "I'm a doctor, not a
bricklayer" was the one with the Horta, that subterranean rock tunneller
on the mining planet. This occurred when the Horta's injury was being
repaired with concrete by the good doctor.

Not to be picky, but... The episode in which McCoy helps the pregnant woman
up the steep incline was "Friday's Child". The quote was "I'm a doctor, not
an escalator." (If my memory serves me right.) The episode in which McCoy
says "I'm a doctor, not a brick layer" is "Devil in the Dark"- the story of
the rock creature called the Horta. McCoy is called in to patch a wound on
the Silicon based creature after it is injured by a phasor blast.

Now, how about some Spock trivia- Name all of the episodes in which Spock
played his Vulcan harp. Also, what was it called?

Anxiously awaiting the reincarnation of Spock this summer...

article (about "Friday's Child") should have been "I'm
a doctor, not an escalator" rather than "I'm a doctor,
not a bricklayer." That's what I get for putting articles
on the net past my bedtime.

I thought the line that Dr. McCoy said about being
a doctor not a bricklayer was from the one about the
silicon creature - Horta - where he had to use
cement to mend the wound...

The name of the episode in which McCoy says "I'm a doctor,
not a bricklayer," was "Friday's Child".

I remember him saying that line in "The Devil in yhe Dark" when they
were trying to heal the rock monster with cement.

		Maybye I'm just confused.

Speaking of this. Back when I was really into TREKdom there was
a company that was selling the scripts to the Star Trek episodes.
Are they still around? They were also into some bogosities as the
ten dollar Star Trek writer's guide which is completely contained
in the paper back Making of Star Trek book.
