Does anyone out there in startrek netland know what music piece is being
played in the following episodes? It is a flute piece that was played in
at least 2 spots, in the one about the Amusement Planet each time Kirk met
Ruth, and also in the one with the spores that took over all colonists on
a planet led by a guy named Sandaval (sp?) as well as the whole Enterprise
crew, and was played when Spock was frolicing with Lelani (sp?).

I'd like to know the name of the piece and its composer, if possible. Thanks
in advance.

I doubt that this music is anything but incidental music written for the
show. You're probably not going to find it.

By the way, that has always been my favorite incidental music, too.

I haven't seen the show for some time (no stations in L.A. seem to be playing
reruns currently), so I'm not sure if the music you are thinking about is the
same stuff.

Anyway, back when Startrek was running original episodes, Leonard Nimoy cut an
album as Mr. Spock. This album included many songs that are recognizable as
'fuller' versions of much of the music heard on the show. If I recall the
song's name correctly, 'Beyond Antares' is the name of the piece that is often
heard during peaceful or romantic interludes on the show.

Sorry I don't have the name of the album, but when I moved away from home many
years ago, it stayed with my folks. I'm sure if you go to a fairly complete
library and look for an album by Nimoy or Spock, you can find it. If you
really must have the name, send me mail, and I can contact my parents.

I don't know about that. I seem to remember having heard that flute
piece somewhere else. I think it's part of some larger work (of course).

There is a song "Beyond Antares". However, I don't think it was ever
used as incidental music. It was sung by Nichelle Nichols in one
episode, though; I think it was what she was singing when Nomad decided
to drain her brain to find out about music. I think she was humming it
in another episode.

OK, I can't let this go on any longer.

I) "Beyond Antares" was hummed by Lt. Uhura on the bridge when she got
brain-drained by Nomad [a.k.a. V'ger :)] ("The Changeling"), and it
was *sung* by her on "Conscience of the King" to entertain Lt. Riley
who was lonely down in Engineering.

II) "Beyond Antares" is NOT the name of the flute music heard in (*only*)
"Shore Leave" and "This Side of Paradise".

I don't know the name of the flute music.
