I guess I should have explained. Last fall, DEC announced something
called the "MicroVAX I" which contains a two board implementation of an
11/780. It uses a Q bus and has a small winnie and a dual floppy in
the same package. It is not the same as the MicroVAX chip (which was
called the "MicroVAX 32" in the talk I went to, but I thought "MicroVAX
chip" would be more descriptive). There is yet another VAX chip set (8 chips),
called V-11, that was also described at ISSCC. So that's three different
VLSI VAX implementations, one of which is an announced product ("MicroVAX I").
I thought that the single chip VAX microprocessor would be of most interest
to this bboard, so that was the only one I mentioned. The reason I brought
it up is that there's been a lot of discussion of the 16000 and 68000 and
I wondered if people feel these architectures are better or worse than VAX
(or faster or slower), assuming that single chip 32 bit versions of all three
were available. I will summarize messages sent to me if there is sufficient
interest.
