The Atari ST's monochrome video is *not* interlaced. It runs at 71hz.
It was done this way so the screen would look good.
The color display runs at 50hz or 60hz depending on the setting of
the PAL/NTSC bit in the shifter configuration register.

For anyone who is still sceptical about the lack of interlacing on the
monochrome ST, Degas can be used to easily set each odd line of the screen to
white. Then the finger waving test can be used to establish that the rate is
71 Hz for either all white or only odd lines white. The figures I got with a
stop watch were 71 Hz plus or minus about .2 Hz. This convinced me entirely!!
