I am a satisfied user of the AZTEC C compiler by Manx Software Systems.
I ran the benchmark that Steve Langdon posted on my machine and here are the
results:

Compile: 8.19
Link: 11.13
Run: 3.32

The Aztec Compiler supports register variables and has sixteen bit
integers, so the run time here is for the benchmark with both of those
features enabled. My development system is a 512k mac with a HyperDrive
so the compile and link times are somewhat meaningless for most comparisons.
