Computer Play was briefly a competitor to Computer Gaming World. It covered gaming on all computer platforms of the time but if often seemed if little was done to differentiate reviews of the same game on different platforms making it feel more DOS-centric. The January 1989 issue of Computer Play includes:

Reviews

  • Legend of Blacksilver – From the designers of Questron, a new role playing game that will keep you busy for days.
  • Battle Chess – All the enemy troops will stand aside as the knight walks through their ranks in this animated version of chess.
  • Battlehawks – Skip the water in your torpedo plane at seventy five feet or escort the dive bombers to their carrier targets and shoot up the enemy’s fighters in this WWII simulation.
  • Typhoon of Steel – Get your armor ready. When the orders come you’ll have to punch a hole in the German lines then race them to the river.
  • Global Commander – Nuclear war has broken out an you’re the only one that can stop it. But are your technical skills strong enough to stop all the warheads from hitting their targets?
  • Hybris – Bash the aliens, then find out where the earth colony is stranded, and rescue them.
  • Indiana Jones – In the Temple are the gems you seek to have. You must get all three before Mola Ram and his Thuggee guards put an end to your life.
  • 4×4 Offroad – Did you build the right offroad truck to make it through the race? Can you go the distance and finish?
  • Starglider II – Search the planetary system you are in for all the pieces to build a neutron bomb, and when you’re done, blow the Prator’s plasma beem out of the galaxy.
  • Wasteland – What’s causing the strange disturbance in the Wasteland? Is it the mutants that live there, or something even they fear?
  • Final Assault – You’d better have brought enough clothes and food for your climb or you’ll get cold and hungry when you’re dangling from the side of a sheer cliff.
  • Take Down – Become a wrestling world insider” by putting together a tag team and taking on all comers.
  • Tau Ceti – On the colony planet, the robots have rebelled. You must go there and shut down their only source of energy, the main reactor.
  • Red Storm Rising – As you look at the CRT terminals on the bridge of your submarine, you realize the enemy wolfpack is looking for you before you can knock out their fleet.
