I have a COMPAQ slt286 (12 mghz) it has a 1.44 mb 3.5 inch drive. I also have a clone with a Teac 1.44 drive. Here is the problem: If I format on the compaq and then write on the clone everything seems to work. If I format on the clone and then write on the compaq the clone comes up with that #$$#@@$% Abort Retry... message when I try to read the disk. The Compaq will still read it but the clone won't. It happens about equally in the attempt to read the directory and an attempt to read a file. It doesn't appear to have a relationship to a particular track on the disk. It happens to disks formatted in dos or with after market formatters like the one in PCTOOLS. I have run CHECKIT and QAPLUS on both machines. They both pass the random read/write test. The Compaq diags that come with it pass the compaq drive, I haven't tried them on the Teac. Any suggestions?
