Computing Services Lines: 12 Playing around with the simple transformation Y <- K*Y^2 -1 mentioned in Hugh Kenner's book review in a recent Byte produced a nice progression (as advertised) from very regular oscillations to unpredictable but quasi-periodic wave forms, as K goes from 1.1 to 1.72. I'd love to hear what these forms sound like. Are there any references to using transformations (digital filters?) like these to produce "chaotic" sounds ? Has anyone used an "instrument" of this sort in a recorded piece? ............. Peter Roosen-Runge York University, Toronto
