I've been running my monitor from c64's composite output with no trouble.
It definitely has all the color info.  I did have a problem:  the luma
pin had color info on it, and I used to run a b/w monitor.  The color
info causes an annoying pattern in the hi resolution monitor.  I found
a solder bridge (excess solder) essentially shorting the two.
