One position as a systems programmer is IMMEDIATELY available. The salary depends on the experience and qualification of the person, but it roughly is in the range of $26K - $35K. The working environment is challenging, informal and friendly. In addition, being one of the centers in computer science research, CMU offers its employees plenty of opportunities in education and in professional growth. Typical examples of software to be developed include system debuggers and simulators under UNIX, run-time routines for supporting real-time tasks, and special-purpose compilers.
