Au contraire:
Anyone may enter into any contract. The fact that the "state" has
a default "contract" "designed" to cover the "normal" marriage situation is
only one option available. As of this past weekend, my mate, a genetic
female, and myself, a legally female transsexual, have exchanged "marriage"
vows acknowledging the oneness of our spirits. We plan to commence living
together, and draw-up our own contract of "merryage" specifically suited
to our own goals, commitments, and situation. The state need not stand in
your way, nor can it's procedures provide any guarantee of the success or
workability of a "marriage" relationship. I suspect that the fear of the
immediacy of availability of "divorce" may keep a relationship stronger than
a standard "marriage" where divorce is legally difficult, and emotionally
easy as a result.
