At the risk of rehashing a old topic, I would like some opinions
on which type or brand of telescope is best for a novice stargazer...

Local planets and possibly Halley are what I would like to view.

I heard that anything afforable to a novice can cause eyestrain and that
a good set of binoculars is better? Is this true? And one last question.
Are there any kits available to build a decent telescope, If I do decide
to buy I would think that a kit would afford a more powerful telescope than
a preassembled unit.

Thank you.
