I'd like to thank everyone who sent in responses. Sorry it's taken me so long to assemble them. Certainly, these results represent only a small number of C implementations. Nevertheless, they do serve the purpose of demonstrating the NON-portability of '$'s. I apologize for any bad guesses I've made about hardware or OS in the following.
