I managed to polymorph my puppy into a cockatrice before deciding he was
big enough. It was great. He would wander around by himself (does that mean
that pet monsters that aren't dogs will not stay right on your heals?)
and then as I made my way 'round I would find lots of little rock piles
left by him turning other monsters into stone. Never did find out if he
would hiss at me and stone me.
I lost him when he got in the way of a sleep that I zapped at another
monster. He wouldn't wake up. Sniff.
