Horswill"Does anyone know of any real *typesetting programs* available for micros? In particular for the IBM PC/XT/AT? What devices do they support? I realize that the phrase "typesetting program" is rather ill defined. What I mean is a program which could say, drive a LaserJet with prop. spacing, multiple fonts, and as many other abilities of troff, TeX, Scribe, etc. as possible. The ideal thing would be a TeX port to a P.C. I am of course aware of MacWrite. Thanks, -Ian Horswill Computer Science Dept. University of Minnesota (horswill.umn-cs@csnet-relay, ...!inhp4!umn-cs!horswill) [[Editor's note. Well, there are actually >>two<< different implementations of TeX available for the IBM PC. One is available from Addison-Wesley. The other is available from CWare. The Addison-Wesley port was done by David Fuchs, part of the Stanford TeX group, and is a semi-automatic translation into C. The CWare version is by Lance Carnes, who is the "small TeX" site coordinator for the TeX Users' Group. Both are in the slightly under $500 cost range. Anyone know of other packages? I imagine that troff is also available for many of the various micro-Unix implementations. --Rick ]]
