You got me there.....

1. Could it be that they are saving vinyl ?
2. They do not have to make the hole larger to put it on juke-boxes?


I too would like to know the answer as 45's in Great Britain (at least) have 
the small hole as on LP's. The only large holes in singles that I had seen
(until I came over to the States) were in old juke-box singles.
