About a month ago, I posted a request for info on mat cutters. I'm
specifically looking for something for cutting beveled edge overmats
that works better then the Logan hand mat cutter I've got.

The Logan, by the way, is an excellent mat cutter for a hand model.
It does however get rather unwieldly on large cuts.

The most promising sounding cutter I heard about was the Logan 500 or
501 Shortcut. I haven't found a retail seller yet. The price a
couple years ago was about $100(u.s.). It sounds like about what I
want, but I haven't yet seen one.

The other suggestion which seems most possible is to build some sort of
guide frame for the hand cutter I've got. The basic design would be two
parallel wood (metal??) strips the width of the mat cutter. The strips
are mounted (or hinged) square to a stop against which you locate the
mat board. The mat board fits under the strips, and the cutter between
the strips which guide it in a nice straight line. This is probably the
solution I'll use when (or if) I get enough free time to do the job.

A couple other devices were mentioned. A couple of people mentioned
Dexter, and there were references to Brookstone and Altos. I haven't
seen either of these, so I can't make too many comments. I believe
that most (all??) of these are also hand cutters like the Logan.

Thanks to everybody who responded!
