I'd get the package from Symbolics that implements TCP/IP in place of
CHAOSNET.  When we received Symbolic's 4.2 BSD package, we decided that
it required too many kernel mods (This is critical if you have Pyramids,
CCI and other non-vaxen 4.2 machines).  Also, other boxes that use the
ethernet (and gateways) don't work nicely with CHAOSNET protocols.
Thus, converting the Symbolics machines to a standard protocol is
the better way to go.
