Lines: 17 Although I haven't seen any of this, I could see how it could happen if a Eunice site tries to create batches....Because the OS wizards at DEC (in their infinite wisdom) have thrust upon users of VMS a veritable plethora of file types, the size reported by a "stat" (or whatever) call may not correspond to the number of characters you can read out of the file, but rather to the amount of space taken up on the disk (what? they aren't the same? why would you assume that?) You see, VMS really likes to create its text files as variable length records (I think they are called) which look likeas opposed to Unix which has .
