A friend of mine was hassled once when walking in the vicinity of LA
airport because he only had a pilot's license and passport, no
drivers license. They let him proceed when a friend of his with
a drivers license vouched for him.
There is a small amount of reason to this, from the authority's point
of view. If your passport or pilots license is missing, and you're not
using it, you may not be aware that it is missing, and the police
probably are NOT notified when such are reported missing, or replaced.
How hard is it to get a duplicate pilot's license?
