The original motor in this car was not a 305, but a 289 ci V-8 that put out 306 horsepower. In addition, Shelby modified the suspension to allow the car to hang in the corners with the 'Vettes. In all fairness to the SVO, the Shelby was an exceptional machine and the SVO would probably fair a lot better against the plain Mustang GT with its 271 HP 289 and mushy suspension.
