Very few players can both play and manage effectively, and it won't be that easy for Rose to play regularly for the reds anyway. I don't know what Cincinatti was thinking of. Rose's longterm value to the team is much, much greater if he gets the hit record and becomes acknowledged, in a sense, as the greatest hitter of all time.
