They were EXTREMELY helpful - on the frame, their frame expert called me up and chatted about my requirements to make sure they were really selling me the right thing. Another favorite place is Flying Dutchman somewhere in Denver - I ordered several things from them over the years, and finally got a chance to visit them - they recognised my name and gave me quite a warm welcome - again, very friendly folks. Palo Alto does have somewhat higher prices - but they won't sell you junk either - their overal parts quality is very good. Bike Nashbar is another story - they are exclusively mail-order. The other places I mentioned are bike shops that run a mail orderr business as well. Bike Nashbar does let oyu visit the warehouse, but it really is a mail-order business. It figures that they could have lower prices this way, but I have always been distressed by how much they are out of stock of things - and it is always common things. If you happened to need odd gearing on a frewheel, they would have all of the oddball cogs, but be out of the frewheel body - something like that. Well over 50% of what I have ordered from them has been out of stock at the time I ordered it. Also, except for the standard Campy parts, they don't relly stock very good components, on the whole - not of the level of the other places I menytioned anyway. Depends on what you want, of course - racers don't have much use for them (I raced for a year back in '81, so I am afraid this is my opinion as well).
