Somebody asked about this topic a day or so ago, so I dug
through the record book to get the following trivia.

Earliest game to clinch pennant:

NL - 137 Giants `04 (the `55 Dodgers did it in 138 games)

Earliest date to clinch division:
NL - 9/7/75 Reds
AL - 9/13/69 Orioles

Biggest lead over 2nd place team, pennant
NL - 27 1/2 games - Pirates `02
AL - 19 1/2 games - Yankees `36

Biggest lead over 2nd place team, division
NL - 20 games - Reds `75
