In the "dressage" (sp?) phase of the Olympic equestrian competition,
the rider must guide the horse through a series of intricate
maneuvers without any overt tugging of reins, etc. A friend of
mine figured out how this is accomplished: (the rider has to be
able to talk without moving his mouth, while maintaining a phony smile)
-------------------------------
(horse is moving forward)

rider: (stage whisper) OK, now turn left.

(horse continues forward)

rider: You want to ever see a sugar cube again? Go left.

(horse reluctantly turns left)

rider: Ok, now start walking sideways, or I'm going to brand
your ass with a red-hot iron when we get back to the stable.

... etc.

Guess you had to be there.
