Not to drink, not to pick up or be picked up, but to observe. I watched the U.S beat the Chinese in womens' volleyball amidst the deafening noise of a rock band and jabbering crowds of young college students. There were alot of yelling conversations going on - I spoke nothing, saving my voice. These were, admittedly, atypical bars compared to the norm of the small, juke box bar and grill. We have those too. But tonight it was the college bar. Occasionally I would see a rowdy male feeding a line, making a move, being rebuffed, and laughing it off as the female exited in disgust. There were often pairs or groups of females protecting one another. Females were never unattended. Males were also usually with their buddies, sometimes on the sidelines cat calling the females as they passed by. The lonely male would appear, such as myself, watching and wondering. When males and females were mixed, there was usually alot of laughing and smiling and yelling in each others ears. Then there is the dancing - the asking, the exercise, the comparing of styles, the break to rest and talk. I like the dancing part. It is healthy (except for the smoke), fun and a good excuse to meet someone you might otherwise not. What else? The costumes. Males were, for the most part, neat looking, often in casual jock uniform, or rarely, in shirt and tie. Bleached, feathered hair, makeup and dresses seems to be popular with females. Some I might even be attracted to except I didnt grow up thinking that was as attractive, although I found myself eyeing a few again. What is this business of attraction?
