I'm posting this to the net because it may have general interest even
though it is really a response to Carl's request.

I, too, am part of a newly formed "single's" group.  We do not refer to it
as such because we do have some "couples" as members and we did not form the
group to be a "single's" group.  It began from an ad in the personals column
that was looking for people interested in risks (emotional) and visioning.
We have now attracted ~150 people but expect the group to stabilize at about
75.  Essentially we have started a "club" with activities such as hiking,
kayaking, pot-lucks, rap sessions, self-hypnosis, and community involvement.
More and different ativities are being planned.  All these activities have
either been shared by group members or will be soon.
Naturally not everyone does all of these things so the typical turnout is
perhaps 20 people.  We haven't had any problems with too many or too few
people and have made no restrictions.
 
We are in the process of developing listings by interest, including just
names and phone #'s until we're all comfortable giving out addresses and
such.  This will allow more autonomy of activities since at present
everything is being routed through one person.

More questions gladly answered.
