As to vegetarian restaurants in the SF area, I second the excellence of
Vegie Foods. This unimaginative name is applied to a Chinese restaurant
that serves vegetarian versions of many popular (meat) Chinese dishes.
They have meatless Sweet and Sour Walnuts, Mu Shee Pork (sans pork),
and many others. Also, of course, standard vegetable dishes.

It is family run, and has pretty good vibes. I`ve seen real Chinese
(or whatever) Buddist monks eating there. I wouldn`t go so far as
to give it a 20 out of 10, though; I`d give it a 9 out of 10 (it`s
too small and you often have to wait to get in).

On the plus side, though, one night the line of waitees was so long that
the foyer wouldn`t hold them all, and many people were waiting out in the
damp and cold San Francisco evening (seriously, folks, it CAN get cold
here). Vegie Foods made up a huge platter of hot egg rolls and passed them
out to all the people waiting in line! How could you beat that?!
