They are best at reporting features, not actual quality. They sometimes do report accurately on quality based on experience, or on a theoretical analysis of the product; and for some products they do a good job collecting data from their subscribers by questionnaire. In general, if you wanted to test a new Maytag product, say, for even quality, you would want to purchase and test five or twenty.
