>> About 15% of the women in this country will be victims
>> of sexual assault during their lives.

	I've heard this statistic cited quite a few times, but
    still haven't found out about the "little numbers that isn't there".

    Like:
	    1] Who figured out this statistic? The FBI or NOW??
	    2] What is "sexual assault" defined as?
	    3] On what criminal records was the statistic based?
	    4] What is the average "lifetime" of a woman assumed to be?
	    5] How was the statistic derived?
	    6] Are there factors that should be taken into account,
		but aren't? (like hookers amounting to a large
		percentage of the victims of assaults?)

    I am fully prepared to believe a fully backed up statistic, but
    am far too much a cynic ("How to lie with Statistics") to accept
    any one-liner bandied about. If anyone has the full details,
    let me know.
