For all of you who don't read the NY Times because it doesn't carry funnies,
heres an item from the editorial page, reprinted w/o permission or
further comment:
"Cockroaches have inhabited earth for hundreds of millions of
years. The dinosaurs couldn't crush them, and man hasn't had any luck
either. Comes now a team of Yale scientists with the ultimate challenge -
sex.
"It's simple, if you're a chemist. Bait a trap with the sexual
stimulant given off by the virgin female roach and the males will parade
in. When the females sniff what the males are giving off, they follow.
The problem has been making the stimulant. In nature, it takes 75,000
virgin roaches to produce 200 millionths of a gram.
"A team headed by Associate Prof. Stuart Schreiber has now
produced a synthetic substitute. In a laboratory test, a trillionth
of a gram of its "periplanone B" is said to driven six males into a half-
hour frenzy and left them exhausted. Yale is so impressed that it has
applied for a patent. But then Yale's been around for only 282 years."

I'll resist from making too many comments, although I can think of
a bunch. JUST THIS: imagine spilling some of that stuff on you...
(Supposedly something similar happened to the guy who developed
the hormone for gypsy-moths -- he couldn't wash it off, and for
a month, he was swarmed by hordes of male moths).

Have a nice day.....
