I think I have to disagree, somewhat. If you go to a SF con (or anyplace,
really) to meet women, then you'll be disappointed. If you go to meet
people who happen to share your interests you won't be, and since some
percentage of those you meet will be female you'll meet them as well. A lot
of it is how you involve yourself in the con (not part of the con
neccessarily, but what you put into it and get out of it). My personal
interest is in the costuming so I make it a point to talk with the makers
of the costumes that I appreciate (which are not always the winners.
EVERYONE talks to the winners...). I've met a number of interesting people
that way, picked up a number of hints along the way, and had a good time.
To date, none of them have turned into something that carried past the con,
but then I wasn't doing it just for that reason, so I wasn't disappointed.
It's all a matter of what you put in and what you expect out. Enjoy
yourself, and don't try to push fate in directions she's not ready to move.
