"Why should this team (Cubs) be any different than the last 40?"

Four reasons:

1) New ownership - The Cubs of yesteryear are no longer.
From owner down to the vendors, the Cubs have a totally
new staff from what existed four years ago. The only
player still on the '84 team from 4 years ago is Lee Smith
and I think he was worth keeping.
2) Dallas Green - This man thinks success and has ever since he came
to this town. He is a major reason the Cubs have they staff
they do today, both in the front office and on the field.
He deserves much praise for his accomplishments.
3) Jim Frey - If the Cubs indeed finish the season on the top, I
believe Jim Frey will be the only manager in the history
of baseball that will have won pennants in both the National
and American league during his first term as skipper (I
believe it was KC in '80 or '81).
4) A real bench - There is no bench with as much depth in both
offensive and defensive areas as that of this years Cubs.
A prime example: Henry Cotto replaces injured Bob Dernier
on July 29 begins a 9 game hitting streak and defensively
saves 4 games with his diving catches in the field or
	against the wall.

With yesterdays win over the Mets, the Cubs are 20 games over the
.500 mark. Frey is regularly going to his bench to keep everyone
sharp as well as rested for the final stretch. Not that the
entire season he's done this, not just now in August. Those of
you who haven't watched this team day in and day out will eat
your words if you think the Cubs will fade. Don't get me wrong,
it's gonna quite a fight between the Cubs, Phillies & Mets.
I'm just saying that this Cub team is like no other Chicago Cubs
team in their franchise history.
