It appears that levitating you are in 'stealth' mode, ie you do not
wake up monsters. I had quaffed a levitation potion just before dropping
into a party room. I happily danced around several Centaurs and the like,
stood in the door, and cleaned most of them out. Before killing the last
Centaur, I floated gently to the ground, took a step, and woke him up.
The durned things are useful ...

Oh yea, for what it is worth, I finally won a normal Rogue game. If
any of you out there are frustrated by losing all the time, I suggest
that you find someone at your site to hack you a 'party rogue'
version. This version promises one monster room per level, with the
associated magic. I won a 'party' version after about two weeks of
on and off playing and then won normal Rogue the next week. Perhaps
the two incidents were related?
