What I find interesting in all the financial disclosure hassles in both
parties -- Meese and Ferraro, for example -- is that the vast majority
of Americans might be embarrased by disclosing their financial shape, but
I doubt it would be for the same reasons as most of our politicians.  

We have some refreshing alternatives, such as Lane Evans, a Democrat
who is running for a second term in Congress from a district
in Western Illinois.  Mr. Evans'
disclosure showed that his most valuable possession is his mimeograph
machine.  No slum housing, no shady loans, no homes in the Carribean.
