It seems extreme to think about arming the entire population of
the US (kids, too?).  It seems dubious that this would have cut
down on casualties at something like the San Ysidro massacre.
In any case, one might argue that even one casualty in such a
situation is too much.

My question, though, is:  What about armed guards in the manner
they are found in Mexico, around shopping malls, outdoor restaurants,
etc., in some cities?  I haven't spent enough time in Mexico to
have a feeling for how effective they are at preventing robberies,
etc.  Unfortunately, I also seem to recall a number of people
being gunned down in a Mexico City restaurant a while back.
