On the subject of dressing well and makeup, a few people have said that
they'd rather choose the cute girl in jeans because nice clothes and
makeup seems to be "lying to cover up the truth".

I tend to look at it the other way. Wearing nice clothes and looking
good is one way of saying that "I feel good about myself" or "I care
about my appearance".  Now I'm not saying that this has to be the case;
but it can be because of a sense of self-worth rather than because of
a lack of same.

Looking at it from person inside; your personality isn't any different
either way so would you rather say "I'm a nice person and in addition
I look nice" or "I'm a nice person and I'm going to look lousy so that
you will have to get interested in me because of who I am and not because
of how I look."?

As a personal note, I get turned off by any woman who wears so much
makeup that the makeup becomes obvious to the conscious perceptions
even when you are not looking for it. Also makeup and dress should
obviously be tempered by the appropriateness for a given situation.
For example, last year I was in a thirty hour dance marathon to raise
money for the Special Olympics. I was paired up with someone there
by the organizers. Every hour we would get a ten minute break, and
the first thing that she would do is head to her stuff to touch up
her makeup. She also was wearing a lot of it. She was a very good
looking woman, but these things just turned me off completely.

In conclusion, I feel that some makeup and nice dress is good, but it
must be tempered with who you are as a person, and should be used
as an aid but not as a crutch.
