I'd say that Cincinnati is only getting Pete Rose for player-manager for
publicity purposes...I mean, the Reds are not exactly in the pennant race.
I guess they figure that if they pull this stunt, more people will attend
ball games.  I'd like to know how long Rose would last as player-manager
if the Reds were in the middle of a pennant race.  My guess is that by next
year, either he will just be managing (no playing) or he will not be doing
either for the Reds.

I can see Rose using this for his own benefit, especially this year now
that the Reds don't really have a chance...getting himself as many at bats
as possible in order to break Cobb's record.  I can't really imagine him
sending up a pinch hitter for himself!
