Message-ID: <252@pucc-k> Date: Fri, 3-Aug-84 11:21:18 EDT Article-I.D.: pucc-k.252 Posted: Fri Aug 3 11:21:18 1984 Date-Received: Sat, 4-Aug-84 23:55:31 EDT Organization: Purdue University Computing Center Lines: 56 (if despair, anguish, and forlorness are the only moods I'm allowed to have, I'm not really interested) A while back, someone (and no, I'm not going to look it up) posted an article on intelligence in a MOTAS. Just recently, we've had a few articles on 'nice guys' etc. I thought I would throw in my two cents (I'm a student, I can't afford much more) worth....soooooo *my ground-rules for what to look for in a motos* 1. Intelligence is attractive. I recently met someone who could make jokes about Heisenberg's uncertainty principle at 9:00 am. That counts for a lot. I want someone I can talk to, not just a warm body. And I don't mean an expert in only one area, either. There are some people who are experts in their own fields, but are total washouts when it comes to current events. 2. Respect my intelligence. There is nothing that I hate more than some person who is so uncertain of his own prowess, that he has to try and deflate mine to make him feel better. I also do not like it when someone insinuates that since I'm in Psych, and not one of the 'hard' sciences, that I am somehow inferior. Also, don't deride my choices in reading. They may range from Proust to Dr. Who, but they do fill a need. 3. Don't belittle me. That goes back to #2. If you feel that you have to save your ego at my expense, don't bother with me, I'm not interested. I have a right to act goofy at times, just like you. If you want constancy, go find a statue. 4. If you can't give also, leave me alone. There is nothing worse than having someone around who is in constant need of affection and ego building, and when I've become frayed about the edges, has the empathy of a rock. One sided relationships (for want of a better word) are the pits. 5. Try to be truthful. I would really like to know if you have an ex-wife/ children hanging around. And please don't inflate your educational/ industrial background. I'm not looking for a title, I'm looking for a person. 6. Make an attempt to stay clean. I *have* a sense of smell, you know. I really don't care how wonderful you are; if you smell bad, I don't want to be near you. Well, it appears that I have just scratched the surface. I would suppose that these would probably apply to either sex, but since my experience is entirely with motos, I'll leave it at that. Does anyone else out there have anything specific that *they* look for/ use as a means for rejection in a motas? Laurie pucc-k:afo
