Applied Research Group Electronic Systems Laboratory Beaverton, Oregon Tasks Participate with small research team in developing innova- tive human interfaces to and uses of future signal acquisi- tion and measurement systems. Interview users of measure- ment systems to discover mental models of data, processes and patterns of use. Based on these models, propose interaction techniques using advanced display technologies, and non-alphanumeric I/O devices. Consult with division product planners to develop future measurement system scenarios and identify high-value, high-risk problems which should be studied in the laboratory environment. Develop simulations or prototypes and conduct experiments to evalu- ate proposed solutions. Transfer results to product groups and document findings in the form of technical reports. Competencies required by tasks Knowledge of and experience with human factors/psychological aspects of human/computer interaction design. Experience and facility with interviews, small group consultation, and large group presentations. Familiarity with instrumenta- tion, electrical engineering concepts and terminology very desirable. Understanding of computer graphics fundamentals. Experience performing functional specification, design, and software implementation using high-level programming language. Operating systems, UNIX tools, C and assembly language experience valuable. Ability to complete projects on time without close supervision; work in team environment; perform precise, consistent work; learn to use state-of- the-art systems and languages quickly; develop imaginative solutions to problems. -------------------- Send resume or letter to: David D.
