How cheap do you want it ? The Anchor Automation XV Modem is supposed to be
"fully" compatible to the Hayes Smartmodem 1200. It retails for about $250.
As for the quality, I can't tell, but other lower priced modems (such as the
Qubie) do not work as well as the Hayes. You pretty much get what you pay
for.
