I own a 1983 Saab 900S with Saab supplied (dealer installed) cruise control. I have noticed that when in fifth gear (overdrive) if the cruise control is engaged the car will slow down by about 5 MPH. I had always considered this behavior to be normal until recently, when a friend had cruise control installed by a third party on his VW w/o overdrive). His car does not experience this behavior. Other Saab owners that I have talked to have also experienced this behavior. My theory is that this behavior is either a function of the particular type of cruise control used by Saab or a function somehow related to using the control when in overdrive. However, I'm not very familiar with how cruise control and overdrive work, so I can't say for sure. Any ideas? /Don Don Wegeng Xerox Corp. ihnp4!tropix!ritcv!rocksvax!dw Wegeng.Henr@Xerox.ARPA
