READNEWS won't let me read jokes! Message-ID: <236@mhuxt.UUCP> Date: Wed, 15-Aug-84 10:59:17 EDT Article-I.D.: mhuxt.236 Posted: Wed Aug 15 10:59:17 1984 Date-Received: Thu, 16-Aug-84 01:29:37 EDT Distribution: net Organization: AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill Lines: 29 I know that this isn't quite the right group for this problem, but I didn't know where to put it. This is the problem: Whenever I get to net.jokes, for the last few days, it starts me at article 8193. If I say 'n', it just prints: 11 lines [ynq]? or something like that, anyway. If I respond with 'n' again, I get the same response, ad infinitum. If I read article 8193, I get the above message printed at the end of the 'joke', and I'm back in the strange loop again. I thought I could fix this up by editing my .newsrc file. I found the line for net.jokes, and it went something like this: net.jokes: 1-8192,XXXX-8205,XXXX-8250 (the 'X's are digits I don't remember.) Anyway, I made the line look like this: net.jokes: 1-8194 But it didn't help. I got the same response as always, and when I looked at my .newsrc file again, it had the same old line for net.jokes as it had before! (No, I didn't forget to write the file after I edited it. That was the first thing I suspected.) Please, if somebody out there knows how I can fix this or get around it, drop me some mail at ihnp4!mhuxl!mhuxt!js2j. Thanx in advance. Jeff Sonntag
