Razors are not nice to faces, blow-dryers are not nice to ... Actually if you have severe acne, they can help. By removing a thin layer of skin, shaving helps to keep the pores open. Just like that silly Buf-Puf. > ...Those little strands of protein are important to a man's self-image, > no doubt. :-) I shouldn't jest, they really are. Yes they are. For any who doubt, go back and read the Biblical account of Samson. Then dig out some old psych text and look up ``castration fear''. > I am less likely to strike up a spontaeneous conversation with a > bearded man than with a clean cut man, and even less likely as the > beard is more unkempt, and many people feel the same way. Perhaps the fuzzy ones should jump up and down and scream discrimination? :-) But this is a real problem. Still, we should remember that Lincoln had a beard. So did Generals Grant and Lee. And what about Johannes Brahms? He had a truly magnificent beard! > That is not not to say that there is no justification for the > cultivation of facial fur! Perhaps there are some bearded men who feel that way. I hope that not too many. The last thing we need is more coverup on the basis of what society (Madison $$ Avenue) thinks looks good this year. Now if someone really doesn't like the look of his jawline, that's one thing. But before he grows a beard on those grounds, he ought to be sure it's HIS opinion, and not the prevailing fashion wind. > Cultural norm. (Desire to "fit in" with the male population of a > society.) But I always thought that that looked kind of nice. And I mean always ... probably from when I saw a picture of Caesar Frank when I was about 3. As far as winter ... they are too thin to be much help, and if they gather and hold moisture they will be a liability. I'll have to see. I had a friend who lost his (frozen) beard to a snowball. It just broke off! Mustaches? Well, I've got one now, too. Time to get my hair cut ... it's been about six months. Then I am going to do some trimming. Fun :-) Stephen Foster wrote a song called ``If You Only Had A Mustache'': A woman bemoans all the desirable men who failed this one simple test. And in the German ``Die Dreigroschenoper'' (the Beggar's Opera, or Three Penny Opera), when Lucy Brown sings about what it was like meeting MacHeath after all those charming men ... the mustache is mentioned as a VERY desirable property.
