Even more interestingly, there is a version of Empire that runs on VAX/VMS
systems that is similiar in concept but entirely different from 4.2 empire.
In VMS empire one plays against the computer, moving different units over
terrain and water in an attempt to capture cities -- which are production
centers. Naturally armies are easier to build than battleships. Somewhat
unfortunately the computer is usually very good and about the only strategy
that works is to attack a small piece of his country with a large number
of troop transports and carriers and then try to hold it.

At this point I must say that because of the nature of the 4.2 empire game
on my machine (2 players, BORING) I like VMS empire much better, although
our VMS vax here is rather morally opposed to gaming.
