I think that it is much more accurate to say that motorcyclists generally don't wave in the L.A. area -- we're too busy staying out of the way of that Trans Am that's about to cut us off. I often find that riders wave to me across a wide median strip and 3 lanes of freeway on my regular trips to Riverside (80 miles east of L.A.). My experiences in Europe indicate that even the motor cops there will wave back, if you wave to them!
