As one of the furry-faced and a sometime-psychological-scientist I beg
to differ, Cindy.
This stuff about mammals being attracted to the young of their species
has to to with body and head proportions more than presence or absence
of fur, facial or otherwise. (If you believe differently, send me a
reference.)
An unrandom smapling indicates lots of women like beards and perhaps find
men with them more attractive and less threatening than the clean-shaven.
An unsupported hypothesis as to why? (Sure, why not!). Remember how
kids like fuzzy, cuddly animals? Maybe we remind them of earlier, inanimate
friends.
I personally grew my beard because I like the way it makes me look. It
rearranges the proportions of my face in a way I find more pleasing.
I still shave part of my face to keep the edges somewhat in line and
because shaving is neat. (I really LIKE to do it; must be something
about living on the razor's edge...)
