So here we are at the start of August, and lo and behold
who do we see on top of the NL East but the Cubs! They`ve
now won or tied 10 of their last 11 series. And what
about the Amazing(?) Mets. They`ve dropped 6 in a row,
with Gooden getting shelled last night against St. Loius.
Admittedly it is only a 1/2 game lead, but first is first.
We`re gonna have ourselves one heck of a pennant race.

I just hope Frey starts to give Jody Davis a bit of a rest.
He`s been in all but 6 or 7 of the Cubs games, though maybe
not ALL behind the plate. Moreland could go back of the
plate for a game or 2, but we could use a regular catcher.
Hassey gets picked up, so they play him at first, and in the
immortal words of the Bob Eucker, "Bingo!" he gets hurt, and
won`t be back till the Sept. stretch. Steve Lake is recuping
in the minors, but no idea how long it`ll be till he gets back.

So it`s a four game series vs. the Expos this weekend, then
the Mets are in town for 4 games, which includes a doubleheader.

"Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey, Chicago, whadda say! The Cubs
 are gonna win today!"

P.S. How `bout them Twins??
