This is my biggest flame because my car was damaged ... ---------- It's hardly fair to blame the store because shoppers leave their carts int the lot. Most stores would prefer you not take the carts out at all. They have to hire people to go out and get the carts. On the other hand, I don't shop at stores that don't let me push the cart out to the lot. I like to stow the bags myself, no drive-ups, thank you. ---------- #2: Aisles blocked by stockers when the store is open. ---------- Contrast this point with #5. How can they re-stock if they can't use the aisles? ---------- #3: Slow checkout lines. No matter how empty the store is, you always have to wait behind some matron with 110 jars of baby food. ---------- They'd be slower if stores humored you about point #4. People who need to buy a lot of stuff have rights, too. Almost every store has an express lane. ---------- #4: The lasers in those bar-code scanners hurt my eyes. And that box that hollers out the prices as they are scanned gets on my nerves. ---------- They put in those scanners to speed up check out (remember point #3). The voice units are there for the benefit of those who distrust the scanners. Has anyone ever caught a reader in an error? If the light hurts your eyes, don't look at it. ---------- #5: Low stock on favorite items ... Ever try to get a loaf of bread right around closing time? ---------- One reason they run out of stock at closing is because they don't usually re-stock except during the day. Try shopping at a different time, if you know in advance that closing time means empty shelves. ---------- #6: Rotten produce: mushy tomatoes, brown lettuce, etc. ---------- This one's easy. Don't buy it. Find a store that does better. Most areas have a wide range of stores; you may find one that deals directly with area farmers or that makes a special effort on produce. It may cost more or be in a less convenient location, but that's the choice you have to make. What I hate is stores that don't carry enough different brands or varieties. In central Illinois that is a problem. I'd guess the local stores carry maybe half the number of unique items compared to Chicago stores. scott preece ihnp4!uiucdcs!uicsl!preece
