Message-ID: <1976@ihuxf.UUCP> Date: Sat, 28-Jan-84 12:07:33 EST Article-I.D.: ihuxf.1976 Posted: Sat Jan 28 12:07:33 1984 Date-Received: Tue, 31-Jan-84 03:12:17 EST Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL Lines: 34 I happened to be strolling thru a JCPenney's store last nite and happened across an "new" (?) type of water bed (okay, ''flotation system''). Basically, it is an ordinary waterbed that is supported by a foam frame instead of wood. A picture may help: \( )/ where this part is foam: \ / --------- ----- Next, the whole foam support AND the bladder are wrapped in your typical looking cover (removable). It appears to have all the appropriate safety liners, etc. The advantages that I see are: 1) this let it use normal sheets 2) the sides are softer than wood - making getting in and out nicer (its not as soft as the waterbed, but a lot softer than wood!) this also makes sitting on the edge of the bed to put on your sox possible. The question I have are about the price -- it was about $850 for the complete system including: mattress, heater, and oak grained base. (the water mattress is 8.5" deep and has a ``wave reduction system''.) The bed is by a "big name" (Englander), but seems rather expensive compared to the waterbed commercials I hear around here (Peppers has a waterbed for $169). Can anybody comment on this price AND if you think this will be a good system? Thanks! -- Larry Marek ihnp4!ihuxf!larry
