RE:  head cleaners.

isopropyl alcohol seems to work fine for tape machine cleaning.
however, don't use garden-variety rubbing alcohol, as it is only about 70%
pure and contains ingredients to make it gentle on your skin 
(read OILS --these can cause slipping).
look for the 91% variety, which is carried in drug stores but is often
hard to find.  a friend's cassette deck had slipping belt problems and
repeated cleaning with rubbing alcohol only fixed it temporarily.  one
thorough cleaning with the 91% stuff cleared it up for good.
