Although there have been several cases of drugs released in the US which turned out to have serioous side effects, it is not appropriate to bring up thalidomide which was never approved for use in the U.S. European drug standards have generally been lower than ours which accounts for drugs being available for human use in Europe which are only for experimental use. For anyone concerned about irradiation there is a very good summary article in the issue of SCIENCE of last week or the week before. It sounds as if the FDA is being cautious in their approach to aloowing its use. !emory!kim Kim Wallen Psychology Department Emory University Atlanta, GA .
