Lines: 21 Here at the University of Maryland the undergraduates and some the administration have been looking into requiring an oral exam in English for non-native English speaking Teaching assistants. This exam would be given when the hopeful TA get to the U. of Md. Being in charge of the Graduate Student Assoc. at U of Md. I would like to know from your school 1) if your school has a test of English for its foreign TA. 2) What type of test is it TOFEL (written) or Oral 3) What are the consequenes of passing or fail the tests 4) Does your school have any other requirements for foreign TA's not covered by the above or Native TA's. 5) How the tests get monitored and graded. Please no comments about how Engineers can not speak English even if they are American. -- - - -- --- -- --- --- -- --- -- -- -- --- --- - Arnold Miller, U of Maryland, College Park Md.
