But seriously... Bad country is just as bad as any bad music (Conway
Twitty will be crucified next to Paul Anka and Richard Strauss).  
Country music is intensely commercial, ergo the shit floats to the 
top.  But GOOD C&W has the following characteristics:

 1. It uses MELODY - something not in vogue among (even my favourite)
    current rock and ``classical'' composers.
 2. It is sincere.
 3. It is indegenous.

Buy a record sometime called ``sleepless nights'' - it features Gram
Parsons and the young Emmylou Harris and if some of the vocal harmonies
don't turn yer heart to water then you ain't got one.  Or anything by
George Jones.
