Thank you Shaun. I too would like to hear the backgrounds of contributors
to this group. As in audio, a reference is needed so that one might better
evaluate what one is hearing.

I have followed this news group for some time but have not, until now,
posted anything to it. This is because I have not had anything useful to
contribute. Opinions alone don't count! A background of classical music
(6 years flute as a youth), audio and electronics (EE audio & broadcast comm-
unications), and work in the audio industry (ran the service department for
the Great American Sound Co.) as a bench technician, has taught me at least
two things.

First, unsubstantiated claims are useless. Unless you have the facts to
back it up... forget it! Manufactures specs are a good example of this.
Remember "Music Power", RMS power, peak power et all? Agree on the terms
(jargon) used and state how you arrived at your conclusion.

Second, shouting matches make noise, piss people off, and get everyone
exactly nowhere. State your facts. Label opinions as such. Give references.
If someone disagrees with you LISTEN CAREFULLY to their points. Exchange ideas.
If you still disagree, getting mad and calling names will not change their
point of view. Or yours!

Differences of opinion make horse races. Don't get mad... make bet. But
remember, it's not who you think will win that counts but who crosses the
line first!

Listening to recorded music means different things to different people.
True reproduction of "live" music, critical listening, dance music, elevator
music, the list go on and on. Please state what you are looking for when you
sit down in front of your system. Knowing what you "like" and what your
references are will help us better understand your point of view.

Please do go on posting your thoughts. Fresh ideas are the meat and
potatoes of progress. Save the flames for /dev/null.
