In response to the request for information on how long to keep things,
here is my timetable for keeping foods:

food type	When to throw away
---- ----	---- -- ----- ----

porkchops	they feel greasy

hamburg 2 stages; the first involves restricting the opening of
the refrigerator. The second stage is when the first
stage doesn't contain the smell; then throw it away.

brocoli Try to balance it in the middle, if both ends dangle
then it isn't good any more.

lettuce gets wet.

boxes of	1 year.
chinese food

ice cream	When the box is half empty. (this takes about 3 months.)

carrots When I bring home a package from the store and discover
		an unopened package at home.

I hope this helps.
