That poem reminds me of the following sequence of limericks.

I think I read them in Martin Gardner's column, which I miss!

1.  There was a young girl from Japan,
    Whose limericks never would scan.
    When asked to tell why,
    She replied with a sigh,
    "Well, maybe it's because I always stick in as many extra 
       syllables as I can!"



2. There once was a young man from China
   With a sense of the rhythm much fina.
   His limericks tend
   To come to an end
   Suddenly.




3. There was a young girl from Peru
   Whose limericks stop at line two.
