Although the song was made very popular through use in General Hospital, it WAS NOT written for the character Laura Baldwin. Laura Carter was a student at Denison University here is Ohio, and a friend of Christopher Cross's girlfriend (at the time). She was killed in Columbus, Ohio while riding in a car with her parents. There was a gun battle about a block away, and a stray bullet hit her and killed her. Apparently when the song was written, Cross had no idea it would ever be used on General Hospital.
