[because someone had to do it]

Hats off to Rich Rosen for one of the funniest articles I've seen on the
net in some time (yes, net.jokes included). Unfortunately, it fails to go
beyond humor as it is lacking in a few areas.
First of all, Rich's big mistake is in assuming that all arguments in
net.flame follow the same template. If I recall, in the infamous tailgating/
speeding dispute, Messrs. Wheeler and Nguyen did not fill the roles of B and C,
rather A and B (or was it D and G?) Also, once in a blue moon or two, we can
actually get through a heated discussion and let it die down without anybody
being called anything akin to a rectal orifice. Rich, you're stereotyping
badly.
Besides, how can one be sure that all arguments will come to their conclu-
sion on a Thursday (in time for the arrival of the Vogons)? At this site, at
least, there is a plentiful supply of towels.
And yes, since it is 1984, I am waiting in FULL expectation of the netnews
inquisition.
To sum this all up, while I won't (yet) say that the theory that all
net.flame discussions inevitably turn into childish name-calling is a pile of
spam, I will say that it is full of flaws and ought to be more carefully exam-
ined. Perhaps generalizing it a bit would help.

PS: All you aspiring young Cs out there ready to pounce on my argument beware.
Should you dare to, I will not hesitate in calling you a buffoon in the
     weeks to come! :-)
