I certainly would like to see some discusion about other message system besides UUCP. As Julian mentioned we have been working on a message system based on the new CCITT protocols for messaging (the X.400 series). It also uses the ISO session and transport (class 0) protocols. To interconnect systems we have developed X.25 protocol package for Unix 4.2. Actually the system can also transport messages over a phone line using a modified version of CSNETs mmdf link protocol (the mods were to permit 8bit data over ITI (X.29) links). It certainly is MUCH better to use a direct datapac 3000 service to interconnect however, both in speed and expense. Rental of a 2400 baud line is $190 a month ($390 for 9600). The packet charges vary but its about 1.50 per kilo packet from vancouver to toronto (packet size is 256 characters). Gerry deepthot???
