Control systems often have some amount of hysteresis designed in to prevent oscillation. If your system had no hysteresis, the furnace would be cycled off and on much more frequently, shortening the life of the components. -- ========================================================================== Bob Parnass, AT&T Bell Laboratories - ihnp4!ihuxf!parnass - (312)979-5760
