Would the original author deny that you can sometimes make broad, rough,
tentative (enough qualifiers?) character judgements from physical appearance?
The way somebody dresses, holds his/her head, mouth, and shoulders, walks,
stands, listens, etc. are all indications of the personality. They do not
involve any direct contact: no speaking, no communication. Just a visual
impression.  When a person who "falls in love at first sight" might reasonably
do is make a snap judgement that here is a person he could admire and respect,
and one whom he would like to get to know better. Some people have to grow on
you; others spring into your life full-blown. Am I making any sense?
