speak on ``Automatically Fitting Splines to Pictures.''

ABSTRACT

For publication quality graphics  it  is  important  to
have  a  resolution independent representation for text
and illustrations.  One  way  to  achieve  this  is  to
describe  the outline of each shape as a parametric cu-
bic curve or spline.  Producing such  a  representation
for  a  complex  image, however, can be a tedious task.
This talk will describe a method for automatically gen-
erating  efficient  spline  approximations from sampled
data.  Using  this  algorithm  it  is  possible  for  a
designer to sketch or scan a shape and let the computer
define the curves for the outline.
