Apparently you have never skiied anywhere else (try Montana, Idaho, Utah, or Colorado). I lived in LA for one year and went skiing a couple of times. The following is a list of what I found EVERY ski area in California to offer: 1. 80 zillion people on the slopes 2. 80 zillion people in the lift line 3. have to buy your ski ticket in advance if you want to ski on the weekend (forget any last minute decisions to go skiing) 4. minimum of $20 lift passes 5. no concept of powder I must admit I have no personal experience with northern california skiing but have talked to several people and they said that it is the same.
