I've been a believer in belts since I was in an accident in high school.
The driver was killed, not wearing a belt, although I escaped with nary
a scratch - I wasn't wearing one either. But when I looked across at my
late friend, I went into shock and stayed that way until I was brought to
the hospital.

A year ago, I was following a large station wagon - headlights on (during the
day) and seatbelt on - when it started a U-turn from the far right hand lane
of a four lane blvd. I wasn't in her blind spot, so she must not have been
paying attention. When she was perpendicular to the road, I saw her notice
me, opened her mouth in an "o" and *stopped.* I slammed into the left of
her front axle, so she was okay, and so was I. But my glasses had flown off
and broken the windshield. I rest my case.
