Remember the misery index (inflation + unployment), computation of
which helped Reagan beat Carter?  In 1980 it stood around 21.  It is
now below 12.  mmt, conveniently ignoring inflation, is appropriately
vague about what figures are bad, except for the deficit.  Citing the
deficit (for which the height of Congress is to blame), like citing the
stock market, is a sure sign of economic illiteracy.

Look for Reagan to use the misery index computation again, to beat
Mondale.
