Last nights show (2/9/84) really underscorred what I observe to be a
major change in the quality of HSB. It appears that they have started
to go for the evening soap audience and as such have really "spiced up"
the stories with SEX. Last nights show was about 80% concerned with
sex, about 18% violence, and the remaining 2% was devoted to highly
charged confrontational type conversations. There was none of the high
level character development that I have come to expect (and which used
to account for the high quality of the show). I am very disappointed
with this change. I hope that it is temporary and that the writers will
put some real and meaningful character interaction back. If I want
sleezy, slimy, ridiculous sex scandles every week I'll watch Dallas
(which I wouldn't even for money).
