A friend of mine was down at Commodore the other day. He brought his bad drive in and for $85 got a new one from Commodore (He is actually waiting for Commodore to get their next shipment in from Japan) . He had a chance to talk to some of the engineers there and this is what he came up with: 1)Commodore does not make any kind of upgrade for the 1541, a firm in Canada supposedly makes a ROM that plugs into the user port which increases the drives speed. 2)Commodore has a dual drive in the works (yes, he saw a prototype). They are debating whether or not to include IEEE capability in it. The drive will be adressed as unit 8 drives 0 and 1. It will retail for under $500 !!! ... As far as head alignment goes, I should be getting the 1541 technical manual for myself this Sunday. From what I hear, it shows how you can align your heads with just an oscillascope and a few common tools...I'll believe it when I see it... By the way, has anyone heard anything about the music keyboard for the C64? Eric -------
