Cleveland, Ohio Lines: 23 QUESTION: Are Americans willing to give up FREEDOM for feelings of SECURITY? Clarify, please. Both of those words are very vague. What are your definitions? Here are mine: Freedom: The capacity, means, and opportunity of a person to interact with surroundings in ways s/he defines. Self-determination. Security: Imperviousness or adaptability to harmful external events. Using these definitions is my ANSWER: I am unwilling to trade one for another, because I presently enjoy both, and see no reason why this cannot continue with proper vigilance on my part. My freedom and security do not prevent the freedom or security of others, so I have absolutely no reason to engage in such a bargain, since I have both. If this was not intended to be a survey, my impression is that most people want security more than freedom. I want them equally.
