Bill, The Galactic Hero by Harry Harrison is a scene by scene reply to
and parody of Starship Troopers.  The Forever War is as much a "reply"
to Viet Nam as it is to Heinlein.  Haldeman still has some shrapnel
from that, which is why The Forever War isn't as funny as Bill, the
Galactic Hero.

When it first came out, Bill, the Galactic Hero was very funny.  In the
meantime the world has started to look like Harrison's parody universe
here and there...
