From "The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language":

	ag-o-ra-pho-bi-a n.  Abnormal fear of open spaces.  [New Latin :
	Greek *agora*, open space, AGORA + -PHOBIA.]

Since his quote was:

	In your congested state (...), where you get agoraphobic
	if there isn't a car within a meter of yours,

his use is not curious at all, it is completely correct.  He is using the
right word.
