I am finding it difficult to believe that the banking system I use is
*so* much nicer than those of others. I have *never* had service charges on my
savings accounts, and get no charge for using the banking machines or having a
low balance. When I got my bank card (for use in the machines), I had less
than $40 in my newly opened account. I went down to the local branch of the
bank, and after choosing my password (something some don't let you do), had my
first use of the machine after less than 24 hours. *Whenever* I want to, I can
go and change my password, a less than 2 minute process. While the people at
the bank are nice, I still prefer the machines, and havn't been to the local
branch in months. Minimum withdrawl is $5, and the available bills are just $5
and $20. When a deposit is made, the machine indicates the updated balance on
the reciept, and it is available for withdrawl *instantly*, giving effective
cheque cashing capabilities. My initial limit for withdrawl was $100 per day,
but it appears to have been raised to $500, the next usual step.

On another note, does anyone really think bankers can count? One of
the things that drove me to card banking was long lines. There are 14 wickets
at the local branch, and *NEVER* have I seen more than *7* tellers in the bank
at one time (during peak hours)!

Oh, for those with interest (or those with penalties :=)), I use the Royal Bank
of Canada, and am told my card is valid at any Royal machine I can find. They
also seem to have the lowest downtime, and leave one notes detailing when the
machine will be down (and expected back up) weeks in advance.
