In addition to the current drop Martin Minow warned about, many
systems use keyboard and/or display cables that have modular plugs,
but have shielded (or other impedance/radiation/leakage controlled)
wire in them. Use of telephone wire may cause unacceptable interference
to your neighbor's TV or radio. Such alterations make you liable for
any complaints, NOT the manufacturer (who had to meet the FCC limits,
all right, and may have used the special wire as the lowest cost way
to do that).
