This seems to be my day for posting repeat articles. Pardon me,
please; I wasn't thinking when this came up a couple of months ago.

I am going to need a good assembler package and monitor (the
software kind) to run from disk on the C64.

Absolute necessities for the assembler package are:
	1) Two-pass
	2) macro capability
	3) link capability (linking separately-assembled routines,
	   that is) *
	4) written in machine language (!!!)
	5) relocating capability *
	6) ability to handle very large programs
	7) understandable syntax and error handling
	8) adequate documentation

*I wouldn't know if there really is such a
beast, but if there is, I want 'im

Pleasant luxuries would be:

	1) an excellent editor (although I could get by with anything
	   moderately servicable, I think)
	2) independance from C64 ROM
	3) disassembler capability

Absolute necessities for the monitor are:

	1) Speedy loading and retrieval
	2) ability to step through programs, checking registers and
	   memory as I go
	3) written in machine language (!!!)

It would also be nice if the monitor were independant of C64 ROM.
After the absolute necessities are met, I want to go for the
cheapest set that will do the job. All replies are welcome, but
send by mail, please. A special plea to whoever posted an article
similar to this one once: please send me a summary of your replies.

Thanks, everybody,
