It seems that one of the large U.S. Insurance companies (Continental?) has refused to pay the claim on the airliner downed by the Soviets. The reason it seems is that they asked for the specs on the frame (in order to order the replacement) and found out that it was modified in some top secret fashion and the company also found out that the crew was comprised of military personel. Part of the rumor was that the insurance company then cancelled all of KLMs other policies as well. This rumor came to me at least fourth hand, has anybody else heard similar stories?
