I am reading all the messages and saving them in one big file (except for the first few I received which I have deleted). I will not answer any of the mail messages for the time being. What I will do is finish what I started on the net (I think I've only got 2 or 3 more postings), then I will reread everything I've received and make an additional posting concerning topics which have been brought up, but which I haven't mentioned in my articles. I will answer some messages personally if I feel that my articles have not been clear enough on certain issues or if I think that the sender of the message wanted a personal answer. If at that point you are still not satisfied with my direct or indirect answers, please mail me again, and I will answer you; as I will still have all the letters, I will refer to them if necessary. This is an apology; it is not heart-felt, but I do realise I am somewhat breaking some unwritten rules about what topics are appropriate for this network. I do feel that I have a contribution to make on this topic, and that this contribution is to try to make others understand different view- points. Understanding other viewpoints does not necessarily mean that one has to accept them, but it means that one can learn to live somewhat better with people who see things differently. Therefore, I do not believe there I am doing any harm by saying what I am saying. That's why I am saying it. I do hope it will not turn out to be a disaster, and I am a bit worried about the possibility that it might. Sophie Quigley watmath!saquigley
