On the PR1ME x50 series of machines,
pointers to word-sized (16-bit) integers and larger things occupy 32 bits;
pointers to characters (and bits) occupy 48 bits.
This is a fundamental characteristic of the PR1ME instruction set
architecture.

Perhaps someone from Ga. Tech, which is alleged to have produced
a C compiler for PR1ME or the Software Tools subsystem running on
their machines, can confirm my strong suspicion
that PR1ME C has TWO pointer sizes.
