Speaking of 3-character uniqueness of OS commands; when I was working
on our DEC-10 running TOPS-10 at school I had a friend named Hal
who used to amaze the new freshmen.  He would ask them, wherever they
were, to ask the computer if it knew them by typing their name.
They invariably got this:

. CURTIS
CURTIS?
.

But, when Hal typed his name, this happened:

. HAL
.

because of the TOPS-10 `HALT' command.

It don't take much for freshmen,
