Was Lt. Goodman over Syria or over Lebanon? What was his F-15 doing (i.e., what was his mission) when he was shot down? How about the F-15 shot down by the Libyans? In whose airspace is the Gulf of Sidra? Hostile aircraft over any country don't usually get red-carpet treatment, do they? Dave Decot "Americans are people, too." decvax!cwruecmp!decot (Decot.Case@rand-relay) Reply: Lt. Goodman was shot down while bombing Syrian positions in Lebanon in his A-10 (not F-15). That day we bombed and bombarded Syrian surface-air missle installations in retaliation for their firing on US recon aircraft (which had been overflying Syrian positions). No US aircraft has been shot down by the Libyans, though they have tried. The dispute over the Gulf of Sidra is precisely over whose air and water space it is. The Libyans claim a 200 mile limit, while we claim that after five miles from shore, the Gulf is international air/water space. Jeff Myers@wisc-rsch
