                           1980 Global Seminar Follow-up

9Several projects are now being developed by scientific and engineering societies
to implement some of the 1980 Global Seminar recommendations. Steve Ruth, of
the ASC, is working on a "Feasibility Study of Using Microcomputers and Data
Bases for Development in India" which was jointly proposed by the ASC and the
American Statistical Association. This demonstration project will include:

a) the selection of 1 - 3 types of data bases using microcomputers (The selec-
tion is by Indian researchers and planners in the order of the bases' importance
to India, e.g. medical care records; regional agricultural data bases.)

b) implementation of information systems.

c) evaluation of systems and recommendations for future applications.
