A young girl hiking alone in the remote Carpathian Mountains
was caught in a violent storm as evening approached. Fortunately, she
saw a gloomy castle on a hilltop nearby, and arrived at the massive
door as the storm raged. A cadaverous butler admitted her to the
castle, and showed her to a small bedroom high in a stone tower -
hard bed, crucifix on the wall, tapestries on the walls being blown
about by the wind, open window through which lightning flashes lit up
the room, etc.
As she was trying to get to sleep, she saw a huge black figure
wearing a cape swoop onto the sill of the window, step into the room,
and slowly approach her bed with uplifted and threatening arms.
Terrified, she snatched the crucifix from the wall and held it out to
confront the approaching figure.
It spoke: "Honeybunch, dot's not goingk to do you a potticle
of good..."
