It happened to me, I don't remember the grade level, but we were learning fractions, so it must have been around 4 or 5. I asked "Is there any such thing as 1 over 1/2" and was told "Yes, I think there is a way to do that, I just don't know how." It satisfied me at the time, and didn't generate a long divergence on inverses. Mark
