A lot of us would like to believe that the Reagan admin-
istration knows why it still has Marines in Lebanon and why our
guns are pounding Beirut. Unfortunately, it just ain't so. Just
yesterday I heard that the administration was not in agreement
about why we(our guns) are firing on Beirut. Some people (and
I'm very sorry; their names have slipped from my feeble little
mind) say we are doing it to restore order and bring peace to
Lebanon(to which I say "Fat Chance"). Others (I believe the Pres
was in this group but don't quote me on that) say we're bombing
Beirut to protect our Marines. So why are our Marines still there?
If you pulled them all out to off-shore postitions until the air
cleared, you wouldn't have to bomb the hell out of that poor city.
Its residents are doing a good enough job without us.
I just feel very sorry for all the poor people in Beirut
who are caught in the cross-fire, if there are any left.
So flame all you want about the motives of the Pres and Company
for fighting in Lebanon, and I bet none of you will get it right.
They probably haven't made up their minds yet, and they probably
never will.
