A few(?) minor(?) corrections to Jeff's logic.....

>>Maybe in a few silly states, it's the law. I have driven through, I think,
>>the majority of states in the lower 48. I know of only 2 that have KEEP RIGHT
>>EXCEPT TO PASS laws.

Driving THROUGH states does NOT make you an authority on their laws. Start
talking to people who KNOW, and you'll realize that "Keep right except when
Passing" is the law in MOST(If not all) States.

---------

>>What's wrong with you, that in 1984, you want more arbitrary, capricious,
>>nit-picking, straitjacket government regulations, rather than less?

I personally would LOVE no laws at all. I would love to believe that
every single person in the world cared so much for everyone else, that
there would be no NEED for laws. Unluckily, there are those people who
have either NO respect/concern/love, or very little. It is because of
these 'people' that the laws are needed.

  ---------

>>Finally, if you ALWAYS drive in the left lane, people will certainly know
>>what to expect-- they'll expect you to be in the left lane. Quite simple.

Sounds good, from a 'I am the center of the universe mentality'. If 'you'
were to always drive in the left lane, and 'I' were to always drive in the
right lane then 'THEY' would have NO IDEA what to expect from 'you' OR 'I'.
What I was stating is that there needs to be CONSISTENCY and UNIFORMITY in
order to sanely share the highways. You want to keep left...fine, get
EVERYBODY to keep left....then of course there will be no advantage,etc,etc...
which gets back to "changing the LAW"

  ---------

>>LANE WEAVING.

from a 'legal' point of view, lane weaving is changing lanes in an
unpredictable, sporadic and dangerous manner, with no apparent specific intent.
Keeping right, except when passing, is very predictable, especially if you
keep in mind the LAST section of my statements, "..when it is safe(clear),
return to the right lane".

---------

>>Christians in Rome and the Jews in several places and times, I am always a bit
>>cynical about LAW. Surely you aren't one of those abominable "my country,
>>right or wrong" types??

Anyone that has read my input would know better. Keep your flames on the
TOPIC, and less on mud-slinging and cheap shots. Other peoples' respect of
you will grow immensely! I am very much one that believes in following the
SPIRIT of the law.
