No way is Commodore going to discontinue the C64.  As far as giving
the serious computer stores something to sell, I recently saw a full-color
add for the "Portable 64."  Looks about like a Kaypro, etc, includes a
small COLOR monitor and one or two disk drives.  Keyboard is in the lid
of course.  Its price tag of $899 should keep it out of Kmart and Toys-Ya-Us
for a while.  Question is, of course, whether anyone will want it;
tho it's cheaper than the Z80 CP/M portables, does a traveling businessman
prefer a color computer to a CP/M machine?  Well, at least wealthy families
can move it around their houses easily.    mike k
