There are also C compilers available. I tried to make the SDS DOS a Unix lookalike to some extent, but was unable to convince others there of the importance of such an effort. The NIH syndrome was widespread. They are still building only 6502-based systems so I doubt that they will become any more widely known. The 6502 does provide the opportunity for a relatively standard coding style - ie. simple and consistent use of registers. This can make it easier to read than code for other processors.
